Garden stepping stones.

Garden stepping stones.

I went out of town with some girlfriends last week for our annual
"girls week at the cabin".
I was in charge of the art project this year and I thought it would be fun to make cement stepping stones.
Michael's has these great kits. You get the cement, the stepping stone form and all the tiles, glass and marbles with it. Each kit is different and comes with  different stuff so check out what you might like. I found mine on the clearance rack for $5.99.
Don't forget to spray your form with Pam before you pour in your cement. VERY important.
They are super easy to make. The cement comes in a bag and you add the water to  the bag and mix.
If you can see to the left a zip lock bag with green squares, those are the plastic stamps that have numbers and letters on them so you can stamp your name or address or whatever.
It wasn't too messy. The gals and I are pretty clean and organized. But if you do this project with kids you may want to lay down newspaper first.
When I bought the kits I chose all the different shapes of the cement forms. You can see two of them here.
After you pour your cement in to your form, it needs to set up about 15-20 minutes. That gives you time to come up with your layout. Also tapping it gently on the counter top helps the bubbles to come up.
I chose a style straight off the box. They come with 3 different patterns and you can choose to go "off the grid" if you'd like. I'm better at designing interior spaces then I am making stepping stones.
And this is what they all look like! Mine is the one that say's "welcome".
We let them sit in their forms for 24 hours before we popped them out. Which by the way is very easy. Give this project a try. These would be really cute with rocks or seashells. A great  house warming gift too.
